What is R&D Debt Finance?
It’s a process whereby a company has an opportunity to access their future R&D refundable claim in advance, as financing. In this case, R&D meaning any technology that is approved by the ATO, and fits the definition of eligible R&D activities and R&D expenditure within the legislation.
The R&D tax incentive is treated as a future receivable and businesses are provided with an R&D tax funding facility. Businesses have the opportunity to draw down on this facility as and when they need for general cash flow within their business.
This loan is then repaid by the company from the ATO through the R&D tax incentive payment.

What businesses benefit from Research and Development Finance?
An R&D tax credit advance is one of the most accessible forms of financial help for a company that is highly innovative but might be pre-profit or even pre-revenue.
It can also be an excellent source of capital to help as bridge funding or as a financial buffer for an upcoming raise. Venture Capital companies also see the benefit to help their investments secure runway even before the end of the financial year.
Overall, any company that is growing, has significant investments in R&D and is looking for capital can benefit from this type of finance early in the year.
Eligibility
A company that is corporation tax eligible, is expecting an R&D claim and has invested a lot in R&D activities and R&D expenditure could potentially be qualified for a refund of up to 43.5% of relevant costs as a cash refund. Find out if your company is eligible.
